Thursday 21st September saw Helen and Steve joined by Ian Shaw (Cricket Scotland) at Forth Valley College's Volunteering Fayre. All sports students at the college have to do at least 30 hours volunteering as part of their course. Helen has been working with the college, Ian and other Cricket Forth Valley clubs to try and tap into these volunteers to help local clubs with coaching. The last year has seen most clubs have a significant rise in their junior membership with Westquarter & Redding doubling their junior section in one year (now up to 90 kids).

This is due in part to the launch of All Stars by Cricket Scotland and the ECB aimed to get 5 to 8 year olds playing cricket.

The plan is to try and secure volunteers from the college who could help coach at 1 or more clubs in the Forth Valley to provide a win-win situation. In return for the volunteering they would be put through a basic first aid course, Cricket Scotland PVG check and a Coach Support Worker/Activator training course.

On the day 33 students signed up to attend a 1 hour session that Steve and Ian will run at the college next week to demonstrate a typical All Stars lesson.

Hopefully this is the start of a long term relationship between the college, Cricket Scotland and Cricket Forth Valley.

In 2019 the Falkirk Campus will move into a new purpose built complex across the road from their current buildings, work is due to start this year. We are looking at the possibility of the games hall being suitable for cricket practice bringing a much needed facility to the Falkirk area! These discussions are at a very early stage but fingers crossed!
